Effective tools
To feel more protected going out alone, invest in a commonly used self defense weapon. There are many tools/ weapons that are used today to protect yourself against attackers. I'm sure the most commonly known to you and others is pepper spray, but there are other resources that can be used, such as a stun gun and The Defender Tactical Flashlight.
Pepper Spray
Pepper spray is a great tool for making you feel more confident in a scary situation. It can help to make you feel more protected giving you the confidence to stand up and fight back. Modelmugging.org says to keep in mind that pepper spray does not stop the attacker, but slow them down. The article "Pepper Spray for Defense" from the website mentioned says,"Think of pepper spray as a diversionary tool that may allow you to escape. Realistically the chemicals won’t stop the assailant, but optimistically it can buy you a few seconds, at best, to possibly escape."
Stun Gun
As described by Best Stun Gun, "Stun guns, are designed to stun a person thus preventing them from committing a crime or succeeding in harming someone. A stun gun falls into the classification of a non-lethal device because it is merely a means of disabling the attacker." Stun Guns are a good use of temporarily stunning the attacker giving you a better chance of getting away and finding help.
The Defender Tactical Flashlight
Art of Manliness describes Tactical Flashlights as "Smaller than traditional flashlights, emit much more light, and are made of weapon-grade aluminum for maximum durability." These flashlights can disorient attackers if you shine the bright light in the attackers eyes. With the damage that the light gives off, it can provide you with more time to get away from the attacker and find safety.
Tips for effective weapon use:
have easy access to it
Don't put it in the bottom of your purse and lose it. If you do put it in your purse, make sure it is in a place where you can easily find it. Selfdefenseproducts.com suggests carrying it in your hand when you are alone.
Have good aim
Some of these weapons will not be as effective if not used with accurate aim. When in a scary situation take a deep breath and find the best access to a spot where the weapon can be used effectively.
